However, one of her first contracted souls gave her that name, and though she didn’t like it at the time, now she’s gotten a sort of fondness for it. Eden means paradise; Mauvais means gloomy skies, dark clouds… A threat, looming in the distance and coming closer with an inevitable speed. Her actual name, while nearly impossible to say with a human tongue, can be roughly translated into “Frozen One.” age: As with all demons, she’s incredibly old; however, she appears to be about nineteen. race: demon occupation: Eden has had a great many occupations over the years, but they usually depend on her contract. She's been a waitress, governess, maid, even a butler a time or two. Currently, she's unemployed, sexuality: Heterosexual, but good luck with that. faustian contract: No one, currently. faustian seal: Each seal she's had has always been on the inside of her left wrist, in a deep blue color. soul flavor: She tends towards either bitter young men disappointed with life or those poor young women who can't seem to find their dreams. She's been known to stay with a contract as long as 70 years... However, before he could die of old age, she completed her contract. She doesn't much care for children or getting in to a contract with someone over fourty... She'll only do that as a last resort. soul count: Eden is rather the type who prefers to drag out her contracts. She usually gets one every seven hundred years or so, but in her youth she did go for the senseless slaughter thing... so, an actual number, she'd guess somewhere in the thirties/fourties. personality strengths: personable; Eden has the ability to be a very decent 'human being,' on occasion. She's never cruel to her contracts, and actually behaves more like an older sister than anything. She doesn't quite understand human comedy... that's still a work in progress. great acting skills; Even if she'd like to rip out your lungs and have you watch them deflate, Eden can make you think she's your best friend. One key indicator of this is if she gives you a full-on smile, but doesn't meet your eyes; eye contact is very important if you're trying to read her. curious; The term 'curiosity killed the cat' is practically something she lives by. How many times has she started fights, and in some cases, small wars? She's lost count. However, she's also the type to point out the obvious. She doesn't quite understand most human emotions, even though she can imitate them almost perfectly. adaptable; She can do whatever her contract demands of her. There are actually only a few things she'll refuse... Including prostitution. That's her major no-no... after that, she's able to quickly meld into any role she's told to perform. quick; She learns very quickly. She needs only be shown something once and she doesn't forget it, nor does she ever need to be shown again. She can make split second decisions, and usually has the foresight to see stupid people do stupid things. quiet; Despite being able to fluently speak every language on the planet, as with most demons, Eden doesn't talk very much, She shows all manner of emotions, but her voice is a rare treat. She's soft-spoken, and her voice is very petite and chime-like. pitying; Just because she can have pity for a poor soul doesn't mean she understands. She's even gone so far as to comfort dying children back in the days of the plauge... Children have always held a soft spot for her. She holds an incredible amount of pity for a demon... She feels bad for the whole lot of the earth. personality weaknesses: possessive; Eden has proven to be very possessive of her contracts. She doesn't allow anyone to hurt them, not even themselves. The two times one of her charges got married, they ended with a bitter divorce over her. short-tempered; When it comes to whiners and drunks, Eden can't stand to listen. She's whisper sweet, dark things into their ears until they've heard hell scream from beneath the earth... She's not the type to yell or thrash, but instead whisper her own dark threats. loses herself at the sight of blood; Even a papercut; she's passed herself off as hemophobic, but in reality, that rash part of her demon nature screams for food. The only way to fight it off is to get as far away as possible as soon as possible; this doesn't go into effect for herself or her contracts. easily distracted; Eden is the ADD of demons. Especially outside, she's very easily distracted. Guess it's a good thing she works quickly... pessimistic; She has a very. very negative outlook on the world. She's not afraid to voice that, either. sometimes emotionless; Due to the fact that she doesn't really understand human emotion, she kind of gets caught off guard sometimes. The only things she truly understands are boredom, hatred, lust, sarcasm, sorrow, and joy. The joy is a twisted thing, though, like an addict's pleasure at a new drug. gets too attached; Only once has she let a contract leave her grips without devouring her soul; After a long and difficult battle with AIDS, a young prostitute that she'd been contracted to was perfectly ready to go. Her contracts are not, per se, barred from heaven, but rather highly highly improbable at even a shot. However, Eden liked this girl. She was no more than twenty when she died, and had somehow earned her way to whatever middle lands create ghosts... not hell, not heaven. And Eden let her go. likes: children reading quiet rain, snow, etc. dislikes: hot days the smell of sickness shinigami (Reapers) eye patches (They freak her out.) hobbies: playing piano writing in her journal acting items: her journal; despite being written in daily, she never seems to run out of pages... her hair ribbon; no one besides her knows why this ribbon is so very precious to her. She'll say that her brother gave it to her; which is partially true. He's as much a brother as a demon can have. He, too, is a demon. beneath layers of clothing, there's a thin gold chain, and she values it more than her own life. Even demons have a sense of family; it was a gift from her 'grandmother', an elderly human woman. Her very first contract's grandmother. One of the few humans that Eden has ever even slightly cared for. It was a wedding present from her husband, passed to Eden as the woman was dying. history: "Your name will be Eden. And you will take my surname, Mauvais." Her new contract's voice was pleasant. In a fit of rage, the man had killed his wife; apparently Eden looked rather like her. He'd been hysteric when he'd made the contract - she could already tell he'd try to weasel out of it before it was done. So she'd live her new 'life' as the man's wife... They'd gone over details. She was infertile; that was the excuse for why they'd never have children. In reality, she'd rather kill him than sleep with him. She spent weeks reading the journals that the real Eden Mauvais had kept, learning how the woman thought, spoke. She became the woman. And lived that way, 'aging' with her husband, until he was sixty two; then she'd had enough. Sure enough, he panicked, tried to compromise. No such luck, Mr. Mauvais... So he died, and his 'wife' vanished. Occasionally she'd hear things about her own mystery... There was even a book about it. Of course, that was eventually lost with the creation of the type-set printer... After all, that had been in the 600's. So much had happened since then... So many contracts. Women trying to fight off rapists, men trying to fight off debts, children trying to fight off their parents, old people trying to fight off death. So much fighting in such a little world...
